President Prabowo Subianto is optimistic about Indonesia’s potential to achieve net-zero carbon emissions on time, positioning the country as a leader in this global milestone. In a virtual conference focusing on renewable energy development and oil production expansion in East Java, Prabowo highlighted Indonesia’s capacity to efficiently produce energy and shorten expensive logistics chains. Energy independence is crucial for Indonesia’s vision of national sovereignty, with plans to launch 55 new renewable energy projects, including geothermal power plants, to deliver clean and reliable energy throughout the archipelago. Prabowo praised the collaborative effort of government ministries, regulatory bodies, and energy companies like Medco Energi and ExxonMobil for supporting Indonesia’s energy transition. Despite the country’s significant oil and gas reserves, Prabowo stressed the importance of renewable energy, especially solar power, in achieving energy self-sufficiency for communities nationwide. He believes that solar energy presents a beacon of hope for various regions in Indonesia, including villages, districts, regencies, and remote islands. Harnessing renewable energy sources will pave the way for a brighter and more sustainable future for Indonesia.
