Darius Rucker has joined an ownership group that includes NASCAR Cup champion Jimmie Johnson and Knighthead Capital Management. This ownership group also features the legendary Richard Petty as a team ambassador. Rucker, a celebrated country singer and former frontman of Hootie & the Blowfish, made the announcement on the Dan Patrick Show, expressing his longstanding love for NASCAR. With three GRAMMY awards under his belt and a recent star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Rucker brings star power to the Legacy Motor Club.
Legacy Motor Club, a two-car Toyota team, has plans to expand to a third full-time entry by 2026. Currently, they field the No. 42 and No. 43 cars driven by John Hunter Nemechek and Erik Jones respectively. The team, now known as Legacy Motor Club, last tasted victory in the 2022 Southern 500 with Jones driving under the Petty GMS Motorsports banner. Despite sitting 24th and 25th in driver points, Legacy has shown promise with two top-ten finishes, both courtesy of Jones.
Looking ahead, Legacy Motor Club aims to elevate its performance and standings in the NASCAR Cup series. With a star-studded ownership group and a legacy deeply rooted in NASCAR history, the team is poised to make a lasting impact on the sport.
