Martin Brundle has raised concerns about the power delivery system in Formula 1, labeling it as “fundamentally flawed” after Ollie Bearman’s crash during the Japanese Grand Prix. Bearman veered off track to avoid Franco Colapinto, who was conserving energy at the time, resulting in a high-speed crash. Brundle defended Colapinto, attributing the incident to high closing speeds and the challenges of managing modern power units. He emphasized the need for power delivery to be proportional to the driver’s actions and called for the removal of self-learning aspects in cars to ensure driver safety. Prioritizing fan, marshal, and pitstop crew safety, Brundle urged the FIA to address these issues promptly in response to driver concerns. The current power delivery system, marked by rapid battery depletion and insufficient hardware capabilities, poses significant risks that must be mitigated to enhance overall safety and performance in Formula 1.
